A suspected case of bubonic plague has been reported in Govi-Altai Province in western Mongolia on Thursday, according to the country’s health ministry.

According to the country’s National Center for Zoonotic Diseases, 17 out of all 21 provinces of Mongolia are epicenters or natural homes to bubonic plague.
Bubonic plague is a bacterial disease that is spread by fleas living on wild rodents such as marmots.
It can kill an adult in less than 24 hours if not treated on time, according to the World Health Organisation.(
