The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) has postponed the Local Government elections in the State from May 25 to June 8, 2024.

Chairman of the commission, Mamman Mohammed, announced the development at a news conference in Damaturu, the state capital, on Wednesday.

According to the YSIEC chairman, the May 25, 2024 date as earlier scheduled was no longer realistic, due to logistics issues and other reasons that may impede seamless and free and fair Local Government Council elections in the state.

He said it, therefore, became imperative to adjust the date of the exercise by another two weeks to June 8, 2024.

LEADERSHIP gathered that Governor Mai Mala Buni has graciously given his approval to the Electoral Commission to adjust the date of the elections for the 17 chairmanship positions and 178 Councilors in 17 local government councils of Yobe State.
