Oyo Threatens To Close Illegal Private Schools

Oyo State government has threatened to close down all illegal private schools for failing to comply with approval processes.
The state’s commissioner for education, science and technology, Professor Salihu Adelabu called on owners of private schools, study centers and continuing education centers that were operating in the state without an approval, to seek formal approval without further delay or face sanctions.
He described the act of operating without formal approval as illegal.
The commissioner noted that the ministry would no longer tolerate illegal schools, study centers or continuing education centers in the state.
He also enjoined owners of concerned schools to visit the education ministry on the approval process between Wednesday, 4th October 2023 and Wednesday, 18th October 2023 or risk closure after the stipulated period.
“The ministry has noted with dismay the unbridled proliferation of private schools, study centers and continuing education centers that are operating illegally without formal approval across the state.
“Consequently, all school owners (Proprietors) are enjoined to visit the ministry of education, science and technology, Rooms 31, 33, 16A am 25 for enquiries on the approval process between now and Wednesday, 18th October, 2023.
“Kindly be informed that operating a school, study centers and continuing education centers without approval is an illegal act,’’ he said.
