Few months after the president and state governors took the oath of office, I took a pen and paper in my attempt to document and grade the performance of the Northwestern governors on a scorecard. After a careful and objective look at the governors’ scorecards, I was astonished by the work rate in Zamfara state. The purposeful and impactful leadership was no way close to others. The transformation was visible and the capital projects situated in every nook and cranny of the state were impressive looking back at the pitiful situation the citizens of the state found themselves few years ago. The state’s capital is gradually being turn to a mini-FCT all thanks to Governor Dauda Lawal’s Zamfara Rescue projects.

The hidden and simple secret for this tremendous achievements in a short period is that, Governor Dauda took the bull by the horn to Man-mark all the challenges and impediments facing Zamfara state hands-on by placing the right men in the right positions to provide Governor Dauda: Enabling A Safer And Secure Zamfara

The state’s capital is gradually being turn to a mini-FCT all thanks to Governor Dauda Lawal’s Zamfara Rescue projects.

The hidden and simple secret for this tremendous achievements in a short period is that, Governor Dauda took the bull by the horn to Man-mark all the challenges and impediments facing Zamfara state hands-on by placing the right men in the right positions to provide lasting solutions to the lingering problems and challenges facing the state. From the appointment of commissioners; to Special assistants and advisers; to sole administrators, all these appointments were meticulously done and executed with careful consideration to align with the Rescue Mission Agenda.

In Zamfara state, Governor Dauda has performed his primary assignment credibly well. As the hausa proverb goes; “abun sai wanda ya gani” and the popular saying; if you can’t visit a place, read about it.

Let’s take a tour to Zamfara state;

In a strategic move to combat insecurity and banditry, governor Lawal had in less than a year had a robust and impactful discussion with all relevant security stakeholders in the country to redesign the security architecture of the state. The governor had also inaugurated the Security Trust Fund to mobilize resources to support the state government’s effort to surmount banditry, kidnapping and other relatable offences across the state.

Governor Dauda also took the bold move to unviel the first batch of 2,645 young, energetic and vibrant members Community Protection Guard (CPG) known as Askarwan Zamfara. Members of the CPG are working side-by-side the armed forces to bring back peace and stability to the state for the citizens to sleep with their eyes closed.

The Zamfara state we regarded, few years ago, as Bandits’and kidnappers’ den is gradually being transformed to a technology hub as the governor had also approved the deployment of high level of technology such as Artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to combat banditry and kidnapping in the state. This is the first of its kind in the entire northwest!

After declaring state of emergency in Education and health sector, the two sectors had witnessed a complete overhaul and revival from their almost-dead situation few years ago. The governor had commence the construction of 245 schools across the 14 local governments of the state. A total of 9,542 seater desks will also be provided to all the schools across the state. 619 tables and 626 chairs will also be provided to the teachers to make learning fun and interactive.

The Tsangaya Modern School in Gummi Local government was also commissioned few days ago where Islamic and western knowledge will coexist to ensure universal Basic Education for all children across the state. The system will, according to the governor, mainstream the Arabic schools’ curricula, integrating them with Islamic and western education. Subjects like mathematics, English, vocational skills and Islamic studies will also be taught to enhance the children’s skill development and spiritual-well being. Still, the project comprise of construction of nine hostels, teaching and learning facilities among other things.

In line with his campaign promises to reposition the health sector, the governor has also commenced the provision of free maternal and child health care to reduce child mortality and morbidity. A special attention will also be given to primary healthcare in remote areas to make sure they are not left out of the scheme. The welfare and well-being of full time staff and casual workers is also a top priority. An external supervision has also been set to check erring staff.

Recently, Governor Dauda has also flagged-off and laid the foundation of General Hospital Anka as part of the Rescue projects to commemorate the one year anniversary of the governor. A complete renovation is being undertaken for the College of Health Science Tsafe to provide adequate manpower and empowerment to the state indigenes. The governor had also upgraded a primary health center in Bukkuyyum to a General Hospital which has been well equiped to provide comprehensive health care services such as; emergency care, surgical, maternal and child care center.

Lest I forget, On Monday, 27th may, 2024, Governor Dauda commissioned two landmark projects in Bakura and Maradun Local Governments as part of the historic one year anniversary of Dauda Lawal’s led administration. There’s a newly renovated and upgraded College of Agriculture and Technology in Bakura and a General Hospital in Maradun Local Government. Still, there’s an ongoing renovation of General Hospital in Maru to boost its capacity to provide effective health care services to the people of Zamfara.
All these and many other projects not captured in this piece are among the numerous achievements of the Dauda Lawal’s led administration in JUST one year. I believe it’s just a matter of time, Zamfara is breathing and will shine again, may Dauda succeed.
