The Arewa Movement for Good Governance (AM2G), in Kaduna recently organized an interfaith iftar breakfast during Ramadan and lent to promote peace and unity among religious leaders.
Dr. Usman Bugaje, the convener of the group, emphasized the crucial need for peace and unity among adherents of different faith-based organizations. He called for justice and equity to ensure stability in the region.
Dr. Bugaje highlighted the essence of the iftar to showcase unity among faith-based leaders for effective governance in the country.He emphasized that the primary objective of the organization, AM2G is to unite Muslim and Christian leaders against our common enemy we have is bad governance.
He noted that conflicts that have often been attributed to religion were actually instigated by politicians who perpetuate bad governance. He echoed that the solution, according to Dr. Bujaje, said that this is possible by bringing Muslims and Christians together to advocate for righteous politics—one that prioritizes justice and equity for lasting peace.
He stressed that righteous politics should be rooted in a consciousness of God and a commitment to ensuring fairness for all. He said that with good governance, this country is going to be great. It is going to be greater, not only because of our number, but it’s going to be greater because of our number.
He said that Nigeria is going to be greater than many countries that you see, even in Europe. He said he is not talking about Africa or countries in Latin. Nigeria has the potential, he said that he is hopeful that in the next 25 years, Nigeria is going to be the third largest country in the world, after India and China. And so we can do that very much, he acclaimed.
In his remarks, Reverend Dr. James Movel Wuye, the Co-Executive Director of the Interfaith Mediation Centre in Kaduna also expressed his gratitude for the organizer of the event. He urged religious leaders to devote more time to pray for the well-being of the country. Dr. Wuye highlighted that the interfaith iftar provided an opportunity for Muslims and Christians to strengthen peace, love, and unity.
The platform is established to promote space for dialogue among religious leaders so as to utilize it to promote peaceful coexistence.
Similarly, the event was attended by the leader of the Network of Peace Journalists, Ibrahima Yakubu. How commended the organizers and called for more interfaith dialogue among different faith-based organizations in the country.
He emphasized that dialogue and justice for all were essential in addressing various forms of violence and societal problems.
In his remarks, Reverend Bitrus Danjiwa urged Muslims and Christians to live in harmony and peace. He encouraged Nigerians to pray continuously for lasting peace and unity in the country.
