Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko have donated N16.65 million to the 66 kidnapped victims who were rescued by the army between Thursday and Saturday in Sokoto State.
The victims included nursing mothers and their babies, children and the elderly.
They were rescued as part of the ongoing military operations aimed at flushing out bandits from Gundumi forest, with 52 persons rescued on Thursday and 14 others on Saturday.
Receiving the victims at the Government House on Sunday, Aliyu reassured the people of the state that his government would not relent in its effort to make the state safe, secure and economically viable.
“This is indeed a commendable effort by our security operatives, especially members of Operation Hadarin Daji who have been working day and night to ensure our people sleep with their two eyes closed. Our government has made the security of lives and properties its priority.
This is why we have convened regular meetings with heads of security agencies since coming on board, apart from other necessary support and logistics we provide to them to make their operation more effective and fruitful,” he said.
The governor also condoled with the families of those who lost their lives during bandits’ attacks in the state.
In his remarks, Wamakko who is representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, commended the governor and security operatives for their renewed effort to uproot bandits from Sokoto State.
The senator, who is also the leader of APC in the state, however, donated operational vehicles to each of the eight local government areas that made up his senatorial district.
