The Umaru-Shinkafi Foundation on Friday donated and undisclosed amount of cash and relief materials to 2,300 female Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Tsunami IDP camp in Gusau, Zamfara state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Tsunami IDP camp located in the Gusau LGA is populated mainly by women and children, who were relocated  from their various communities across the state, as a result of the lingering security challenges in the area.

The relief materials distributed to the IDPs comprised food items, clothes and other household goods, while most of the cash was given to the camp’s security personnel, health officials, persons with disability and kitchen staff.

Speaking at the distribution exercise, an official of the foundation, Hajiya Fatima Umaru-Shinkafi said the gesture was aimed at promoting the wellbeing of the IDPs.

Hajiya Fatima Shinkafi, who is the Executive Secretary, Solid Minerals Development Fund, said the gesture also aimed at complementing the efforts of government at all levels in taking care of the IDPs.

“One of the activities of the foundation is humanitarian services to various categories of vulnerable groups”, She said

She urged the IDPs to consider their condition as a test from the Almighty Allah, saying, “We should all continue to pray to Allah to overcome the security challenges in the state and country in general”.

According to her, the foundation was seeking partnership with the state government to offer skills training to the women IDPs in the state.

“If the partnership succeeds, the IDPs would be trained in various skills aimed at uplifting their socio economic status”, She explained.

Malama Aisha Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the IDPs, commended the foundation for considering them and supporting them with the cash and the items which, she noted, would help in reducing their hardship and other socio economic challenges in the camp. (NAN)
