FG Committed To Strengthening Police, Curriculum Review – Minister

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its commitment and dedication to strengthening the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano both academically and infrastructurally to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration’s vision to address emerging security threats in the country.
The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Iman Sulaiman Ibrahim made this known while on a supervisory visit to the academy on Wednesday.
She said, “This administration is extremely committed to strengthening the Police Academy, both academically and infrastructurally. We recognise the institution’s importance, and hence, there is a need for a comprehensive review and strengthening of the curriculum to align with modern-day police requirements and address emerging security threats.
“On the infrastructure front, a significant Investment is required. Hostels, health centres, classrooms, training grounds, and other important facilities will need to be built or undergo major upgrades to meet world-class standards in terms of a conducive and Inspiring environment for learning.
“To enhance the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force, there is a need to expand the number of trained police officers. We, therefore, appreciate the need to expand the capacity of the Academy to accommodate more cadets to ensure a steady stream of well-prepared professionals to bolster the ranks of our police force.”
The minister added that as the sole degree-awarding police training institution in Nigeria, the institution is expected to set the standard for excellence while ensuring that each graduate displays the highest ideals of professionalism, commitment, and unwavering dedication to the protection of communities.
“It is for this reason that we must take the screening and recruitment of cadets very seriously. The quality of intake into this Academy is a critical determinant of the quality of output. Rigorous screening processes ensure that only the best and brightest individuals, possessing the highest ethical standards and a deep commitment to public service, join our esteemed ranks.
“The meticulous selection of cadets not only forms the foundation upon which the future of our police force is built but also safeguards the prestige of this Police Academy and ensures that our nation’s security is entrusted to individuals of the highest calibre.”
She further highlighted that the renewed hope Police vision is the emergence of a world-class Nigeria Police Force that is inclusive, technology-driven, intelligence-led, and effective in fulfilling its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and properties.
