The Presidential Support Committee (PSC) has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari over the release of former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and and the convener of #RevoultionNow, Omoyele Sowore from detention, saying the president has sealed the lips of the enemies of democracy in the country.
According to the committee, President Buhari has shamed antidemocratic elements in Nigeria by displaying his unflinching adherence to the rule of law with the release of Dasuki and Sowore who are being held for corruption and treason-related crimes.
In a statement by its Director of Communication and Strategic Planning, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, the PSC also faulted the claim that the president bowed to both internal and external pressure to order the release of the duo.
Ibrahim said, “In a presidential system such as Nigeria is practicing, the buck stops on the president’s table. It is his duty to safeguard the unity, peace, progress and the continuous existence of Nigeria, using the apparatus of state.
“Where an arm of government like the Judiciary gives an order or judgment, it is the duty of the executive led by the president to execute the order or judgements as soon as it is safe to do so. This constitutionally assigned role is what President Muhammadu Buhari demonstrated with the release of Omoyele Sowore and Retired Col Sambo Dasuki.
Rather than applauding him, cynics went to town, musing and adducing all manner of theories. The latest antics of detractors to downplay the significance of the release of Sowore and Dasuki to score cheap political point is still the old antics of the opposition to undermine the Buhari administration”.
The PSC added that those hatching all manners of diversionary theories to explain President Buhari’s magnanimity were merely playing the Ostrich by trying to hide their head in shame.
He stated: “In their gross display of absurdity, they have insinuated that the president’s action was premised on a letter he received from the United States Government. Nothing can be more misleading than this frivolous insinuation.
“The motives of this disgruntled elements are so clear: to save their faces from shame because of their earlier cooked up propaganda that the Buhari administration is ardent in the disobedience of court orders. Now that  the federal government has demonstrated to the contrary, their next tactics is to read meanings into it.
“Instead of these critics to give credit to the current government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari for its strict adherence to the rule of law, they have resorted to their mischievous and mendacious ways of concocting falsehood because of their political leaning and interests.
“But President Buhari has once again shamed the armshair critics who see nothing good in every step he takes in a bid to safeguard Nigeria and to reposition it on the part of sustainable progress”.
The PSC also berated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for claiming that history will not be kind to the APC government because the destructive policies of the Buhari administration that have crippled over 40 million businesses, devalued the naira and deflated the economy.
Faulting claims by the PDP that 40 million Nigerians have lost their sources of livelihood, Ibrahim said, “President Buhari should be given due regards for saving Nigerians from the fangs of looters who milked the country’s treasury dry and subjected Nigerians to untold hardship. History will be kind to Buhari because his policies have liberated Nigerians from economic slavery the PDP government had kept them in”.
