The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), a group, has pleaded with Nigerians to adhere strictly to the directives of government and experts on how to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, Chairman of CLO in Anambra, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday that some Nigerians were still behaving in their old ways and shunning warning on social distancing and wearing of face mask
He decried the low level of awareness and compliance as some citizens feel that abiding with the directives was a task and service to the government, rather than a means to safeguard their lives and those of others.
“It is despicable that less than 50 per cent of citizenry comply appropriately to hand washing, wearing of face mask; whereas social and physical distancing are observed in breach.
“It is of prime importance to note that wealth without health is living in a state of languor.
“It is ineluctable and inexorable for us to collectively and collaboratively wage war against COVID-19 and free ourselves and our dear country from the deadly pandemic,’’ he said.
The CLO boss, however, commended those who had provided palliative stimulus for the indigent citizenry in the country, urging others to emulate them.
