An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, remanded three men – Ayuba Yakubu, 35; Momodu Abu, 30; and Solomon Okechukwu, 35 – who allegedly robbed a truck of goods and shot a man to death.

The defendants are being tried for conspiracy, armed robbery and murder.

However, the court did not take their pleas following the motion by the Prosecutor, ASP Bisi Ogunleye, that the matter should be referred to the Director of Public Prosectuions (DPP) for advice.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre without an option of bail.

Kubeinje directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.

She adjourned the case until Sept. 21.

Ogunleye, told the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the offences on Oct. 26, 2019, at 11:30p.m on Ibadan Expressway, Lagos.

He said that the defendants conspired to rob a truck of goods, property of a logistics and leasing company and killed a 35-year-old man, Mr Hammed Alayo.

“The defendants intercepted the vehicle loaded with Nestle products, shot the victim to death.

“They carted away goods valued at N25,000.

“The defendants were later arrested and they confessed to the crime.”

Ogunleye said that the offences violate Sections 297, 233 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that armed robbery violates Section 297 which attracts not less than 21 years imprisonment, while section 233 prescribes 14 years for murder.
