A former Executive Director of First Bank of Nigeria and 2019 APC gubernatorial aspirant in Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal, has said it’s grossly irrational and ridiculous to link him with an audacious, but hair- brained fake news of “sponsoring a Buhari Must Go protest.”
The former top banker, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, wondered why anyone could attribute such a ridiculously but poorly crafted spurious lie to his person, just as he urged Nigerians to be wary of purveyors of fake news.
Lawal’s response is connected to a story published by a news blog, desperately and traitorously trying to link him up with a phantom anti-Buhari protest.
The former First Bank ED stated: “In a democracy, especially the American-styled presidential system, explicit provisions for how the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is elected, and if need be, removed, are explicitly mentioned,” he said.
“Based on the foregoing, I can’t decipher why some bread and butter political jobbers would expect me to descend so low to get involved in calling for the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
He said “these faceless and perfidious elements have taken politics to an anarchic level. Only educationally-deficient and morally-debased persons would promote calls for Buhari removal as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria at a time the country needs him most,” he said.
Lawal maintained that he is an ardent believer in democracy and all democratic institutions. “I strongly believe that the call for Buhari to resign is preposterous and begotten from sheer bitterness, then how will I be a party to such clueless madness? The president is strong and sound. What then is the justification for these deviant calls?
“Deductions from their irrational presentation betray the fact that they are the same food-is-ready elements bankrolled by “deep pocket” enemies of the country and the president within to overheat the polity. Their grouse is that I am a frontline supporter of the President and a loyal, and dedicated APC member. The fact is, we all know that such disgruntled peddlers of fake news and their sponsors will find it difficult to sincerely support President Buhari.”
On his next line of action, Lawal affirmed that his counsel are concluding arrangements to drag all persons involved in this call to anarchy to court for libel.
