Group Distributes Food Items To 700 Widows, Orphans In Yobe

The Yala Bornoye Progressive Initiative, an NGO, says it has distributed food and non-food items to 700 widows, orphans and elderly persons affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Yobe.

Alhaji Mustapha Adam, Director Administration, Kanem Development and Yala Bornoye Progressive Initiative, stated this at the inauguration of the food distribution exercise on Thursday in Buni Gari, Yobe.

Adam said the items were distributed to the beneficiaries in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

He said the gesture was to mitigate the effects of the insurgency and bring succour to the affected persons at Buni Gari, Geidam and Yunusari Local Government Areas of the state.

The director said that 100 widows and 200 orphans received assorted food and other relief items in Geidam while others benefited from the gesture at Zai Lawanti in Yunusari LGA.

Adam appreciated Gov. Mai-Mala Buni and the Commission for their support which facilitated successful implementation of the exercise.

In his remarks, Alhaji Garba Ajiyabo, Acting Coordinator of the NEDC in Yobe, said the Commission had provided food, livelihood support and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training to hundreds of vulnerable women in the state.

Also speaking, Alhaji Bura Konto, an official of the Gujba Local Government Council, lauded the gesture and urged the beneficiaries against diversion of the items.

Some of the beneficiaries, Bulama Fugu and Hajiya Bintu, commended the gesture and pledged to make good use of the items.

Bintu called for the expansion of the programme to enable more people benefit  from it. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
