Bauchi State commissioner for education Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru has expressed concern over the high number of unregistered private schools in the state.
She said the total number of registered schools in the state stands at 1,102 and directed that private schools must henceforth operate five kilometres away from one another for effective service delivery.
Dahiru stated this at a meeting with private schools’ proprietors aimed at addressing the challenges and reviewing the success recorded to further advance education in the state.
The meeting took place at Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Bauchi.
The commissioner said the importance of private schools towards complementing the educational needs of students cannot be over-emphasised and called for collaboration with her ministry to achieve the set objectives.
Dahiru charged the proprietors to pay their dues as at when due and ensure they operate based on stipulated rules and regulations for establishing them.
