The Zamfara state Youth parliament had launched an empowerment campaign to check insecurity in the state.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulhamid Ibrahim, made the disclosure at the opening ceremony of the youth’s security summit, held in Gusau, on Tuesday.

Ibrahim said the decision was critical considering the way bad elements had continued to engage the youths in various criminal acts, to do away with poverty and illiteracy.

He said the youths must be educated and economically empowered to prevent them from joining bad groups as informants or collaborators, who aid criminality.

He said “as you can see we are in partnership with all stakeholders ranging from security agencies, Federal, state and local governments to ensure youths are sensitised and empowered economically.

” This could be the only means in which the lingering security challenge in the state can be addressed to achieve lasting peace “.

According to him, the Parliament was making arrangements, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, to empower 200 youths on agro business.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in attendance at the summit were a cross section of youths from secondary schools, tertiary institutions and from non formal sector.
