Hon. Musa Mustapha has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Yobe East senatorial bye-election slated for February.
Mustapha is in a race to replace his son-in-law, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, who represented the Yobe East Senatorial District in the 10th Senate before his appointment as Minister of Police Affairs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the primary election, which was held at the August 27 Stadium, Damaturu, Hon. Mustapha (Kulas) scored a total of 357 votes to beat his only opponent, Salisu Sanda, who scored zero vote.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed the bye-elections into vacant legislative seats to take place on February 3, 2024.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the APC primary election was conducted by a three-member committee chaired by Ibrahim Masari while Ibrahim Jalo served as secretary.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Mustapha, who currently serves as Commissioner for Transport and Energy, promised to protect the interest of the good people of Yobe East Senatorial District (Zone A) in the 10th National Assembly if elected.
He thanked state governor, Mai Mala Buni, and the state APC chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka, for their leadership in steering the party to victory at all times.
He also thanked the delegates for trooping out in their number to cast their votes for him, adding that he would justify the confidence reposed in him.
