The Commander, 23rd Armoured Brigade, Yola, Adamawa State, Brig. Gen. Gambo Mohammed, has accused policemen of shooting and injuring a soldier at a checkpoint.
He also said the policemen took the injured Soldier away, thereby sparking a conflict between soldiers and policemen in the State on Wednesday.
Reacting to the attack on the Adamawa State Police Command headquarters during a telephone conversation with LEADERSHIP correspondent, the Army Commander said soldiers went to rescue their injured colleague at the Police Command headquarters, a development that led to the exchange of fire with policemen on duty.
Brig.-Gen. Mohammed said, “Police shot at our soldier at a checkpoint.
“The soldier was injured, and the Police went and hid him, and we can’t find him.
“So, the soldiers went to rescue their colleague that was shot by the Police.”
Meanwhile, a source at the Police headquarters in Yola confirmed that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is currently holding a meeting with top military personnel in Abuja over the matter.
LEADERSHIP reports that normalcy has returned to the state capital following sporadic gunshots between policemen and soldiers, a development that sent residents panicking.
