Dr. Idayat Durotoye,  Chairman, University of Ilorin (Unilorin)  COVID-19 Prevention Committee, says the committee plans to send electronic mails to members of the community on keeping and maintaining optimal hygiene against COVID 19.

Durotoye told newsmen in Ilorin on Thursday that the effort was to enlighten people on best practices to prevent the disease.

She disclosed that the university had commenced the construction of wash-up points around the campus.

The chairman added that the committee was employing direct labour to build the wash-up points to achieve substantial number with the fund released so far.

According to her, this is to ensure that members of the university community practice regular hand washing and hygiene in line with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) guideline.

“The wash-up is to ensure the practice of regular hand hygiene as recommended by the WHO for workplaces,” she said.

While highlighting the WHO and school guidelines on infection prevention and control, she stated that cleaners would be taught how to clean surfaces regularly as hand sanitisers would be distributed to different units and departments in the university.

She also stressed that health workers were trained on infection prevention and control, averring that regular updates of the activities of the committee would be made known to public.
