An apprentice with a petrol tanker has been severely injured in an accident in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday.
The incident occurred when the petrol-laden tanker lost control while navigating the ever-busy Takie Roundabout in the ancient Ogbomoso city, lost control and crashed.
Sources close to the scene revealed that the tanker, en route from Caretaker area of the city, veered off the road while attempting to turn to the Federal Government College (FGC) road to connect with the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway. The sudden loss of control led to a devastating fall, inflicting severe harm on the apprentice’s leg.
Prompt action was taken to rush the injured apprentice to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso for urgent medical attention.
The aftermath of the accident rippled through the city, causing a significant traffic gridlock, particularly among articulated vehicles on the major trunk A road.
An unnamed operative from the Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (ORTMA) confirmed the distressing incident, highlighting the swift response of their team in managing the chaotic aftermath.
“One of the motor boys had one of his legs crushed in the accident but had been taken to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital,” the ORTMA operative disclosed.
“Our men upon seeing the accident quickly mobilised to nearby road junctions to stop traffic and control movement of people at the scene to prevent any untoward incident like a fire outbreak or more accidents,” he added.
