The Vice Chancellor of the Sokoto State University, Professor Bashir Garba, has advised new intakes into the University to shun all vices and embrace self-discipline, self-reliance, good mode of dressing and ensure commitment to their studies.
Professor Bashir gave the counsel in his address at the university’s 10th matriculation and oath taking exercise of 3,195, 2,626 undergraduate and 569 Postgraduate students.
The VC also reiterated that the institution is not only after academic excellence but focuses on skills acquisition and character development of its students.
Similarly, Professor Garba sought the state government’s quick attention to rescue damaged structures on the University following the rainstorm that ravaged some of its buildings during the last rain season.
He further appealed to the government to consider the recruitment of more staff for its PG progammes and provision of new faculties respectively.
”We don’t compromise standards, so, you all have to work extra hard. We have provided everything (facilities) for you to excel including conducive atmosphere.
”I urge you to obey the university rules and regulations, as the contravention of any of our rules is met with appropriate penalties and in some cases, expulsion from the university”, he pointed out.
However, the Vice Chancellor said the university has additional 16 undergraduate programmes bringing its courses to 39 with additional 2 faculties of Engineering and Agriculture.
