A Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 20-year-old security guard, Abdulresheed Umar to six months imprisonment for allegedly stabbing a man on his back.
Umar, a resident of FCDA Junction Kubwa – Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of causing grievous hurt, an offence contrary to Section 248 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Gambo Garba, convicted Umar after he pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.
Garba, who said that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others, however, gave the convict an option of a fine of N20,000.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainant, Abdullahi Wada, of No. 2, Power Tools Avenue, Suleja in Niger, had reported the incident at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station on Dec. 25.
Ogada said that the convict committed the offence on the same day at 3.00 p.m. at Dutse Alhaji, Abuja.
The prosecutor said that while the complainant was on his way to the farm, he saw Alhaji Abubakar trying to protect a boy from being harmed by the convict.
He said that the convict was chasing the little boy with a stick and a knife, adding that Abubakar begged him to calm down and forgive the boy.
Ogada said that the convict told Abubakar that it was mandatory that he must shed his blood and immediately pulled off his clothes.
He said that Abubakar was scared and took to his heels.
He added that the convict pursued Abubakar and stabbed him at the back.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant was thereafter to a hospital.
He said that the convict confessed to committing the crime during an investigation by the Police.
