The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has urged residents to be vigilant and report all suspicious people and activities within their vicinity to security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Aliyu, made the call while briefing newsmen at the end of the monthly FCT Security Committee meeting on Friday, in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was chaired by the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello.

“Security is a collective responsibility, so, we must communicate when we see those we consider as unknown faces around our areas, especially with what we are seeing or hearing across the country,” Aliyu said.

She assured the residents of the safety of their lives and property as the security agencies were very alert to their responsibilities.

According to her, the city is safe and the environment is also good with ease of doing business.

“But by and large, the security apparatus in FCT is very much awake and the information gathering network is very much active,” she added.

Aliyu revealed that while the crime had indeed reduced in many parts of the territory, “this has not been the case in a few others.”

She, therefore, gave assurance that the security agencies were working hard to curb the crime in those areas.

Also, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Sunday Babaji, called for the cooperation of the residents by giving timely and accurate information to the police while assuring them of their security and safety.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Malam Bashir Mai-Bornu;  the Acting Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, Zaliha’u Ahmed and the Onah of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Yususa.

Others were the six area council chairmen as well as heads of the various military and paramilitary agencies in the FCT.
