Amb. Adnan Bostaji, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, has said that the kingdom provided more than 17 billion dollars to fund refugees and displaced persons across the globe.

Bostaji, who made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, added that the grants were given out in the past two decades.

The ambassador said that the funds were aimed at providing support to countries to enable them to host 1,094 million refugees in the form of providing essential services and jobs.

He added that the funds were to support the Donor Conference hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kuwait.

“Of the seventeen billion dollars, 637.1 million went to supporting international organisations, with 287.9 million given to support the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

“16.7 billion was used in aid for refugees inside the kingdom and 1 million dollars was allocated to fund UNHCR’s programmes in 2020,” Bostaji said.
