A Kaduna-based socio-political pressure group, APC Akida, has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging that one of his ministers is among the biggest beneficiaries of the $2.1 billion Arms Deal scandal.
In a petition signed by its coordinator, Musa Mahmud, the group urged the president to consider dropping state minister for defence Bello Matawalle over his involvement in the arms deal that defrauded Nigeria of billions of dollars.
Mahmud said the group considers it an obligation to call on the president to do what is needed because Mr. Matawalle’s position is sensitive. It should only be occupied by an honest person whose reputation is not stained by corruption.
APC Akida further reminded the president that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating a corruption case involving the state minister for defense involving N70 billion.
The Defence minister, a former Zamfara State Governor, is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged involvement in a fraud amounting to ₦70 billion.
In the petition to the President, the group stated that Matawalle is unfit for the Renewed Hope Cabinet as he was indicted and listed first among individuals and companies that received payments without contractual agreements.
