The Rivers State Police Command has identified and arrested its officers involved in a case of alleged abduction and extortion of $3,000 from an unknown man.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a terse statement disclosed this to journalists in Port Harcourt.
Iringe-Koko said the outcome of Police investigation about the case will be made public as soon as it was concluded.
Recall that a Delta-based politician, Harrison Gwamnishu, had raised the alarm on his X (formerly Twitter) handle @HarrisonBbi18, saying: “$3000 USDT Transferred to Police officers WALLET….. Tracked them to Portharcourt, Rivers State.
“The police officers attached to Rivers State Police Command left Portharcourt to ABA, ABIA State, arrested the man, took him to Rivers State, Bayelsa State and entered Ughelli, Delta State. After paying 3000USDT, they moved him back to Portharcourt and dumped him.
“Let it be on record that the Commissioner of Police Rivers State Command is aware of this Kidnapping by men under his supervision.”
Gwamnishu also posted a video of himself narrating how the incident happened on January 16, 2024.
The Rivers State Police spokesperson, however, did not say anything about the allegation of complicity made against the Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu, by Gwamnishu.
