The Police on Thursday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Ogunlana Toyin, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged impersonation and assault.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant presented himself as a serving soldiers on Sept. 8 at 11:00 a.m. in Ado Ekiti.
Akinwale also alleged that the defendant assaulted one Oje Olalekan, a staff member of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) while performing his lawful duty.
He added that the defendant and others still at large assaulted the officer by beating him with cable wires while performing his lawful duty.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His counsel, Mr Olalekan Fagbite, urged the court to grant Toyin bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olanike Adegoke, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ruled that one of the sureties must be a Grade Level 12 officer in the civil service.
Adegoke adjourned the case until Sept. 29 for hearing.
