The Osun Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode, has reiterated his commitment to keeping the state safe and secure in spite of many challenges faced in the course of executing his duties.

Olokode gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to his office in Osogbo on Tuesday by the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel.

The police chief said that since he resumed office in December 2020, he had been working tirelessly to surmount and curtail the security challenges he inherited in the state.

He said he had, however, established a cordial and good working relationship with sister security agencies and local security outfits to ensure the state was adequately secured, protected and policed.

Olokode said that he had also set up a tactical police squad, which was strategically positioned in all the police state area commands, to render backup assistance and respond to distress calls from any part of the state.

According to him, Section 4 of the Police Act stipulates that the police is to protect lives and property and also to prevent crime.

He said that he was, however, happy with the level of cooperation and assistance he was getting from Gov. Gboyega Oyetola in assisting the police to carry out its primary functions.

Olokode also commended journalists for always giving police activities in the state adequate coverage, saying the police and the press were partners in progress.

Earlier,  Mr Tunji Omofoye, the NUJ Correspondent’s Chapel Chairman, who led other executives on the courtesy visit, said the police and the press had a lot in common.

Omofoye said that journalists would continue to give police activities the required coverage.

He also reassured the commissioner that the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel would give the police state command all the necessary media support and publicity.
