NLC Vouches For Kogi Govt On New Minimum Wage

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kogi State, Mr Onuh Edoka is  optimistic that the state government will implement the new minimum wage very soon.

Edoka made this known in Lokoja on Wednesday while speaking at the Seventh Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the State Chapter of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN)

He said that government had already set up a committee to resolve all issues surrounding the implementation of the new N30, 000 minimum wage and its consequential adjustments.

The NLC chairman urged civil servants to remain hopeful of a better deal from the state government.

“We are hoping that by the end of the 30-day timeline given to the committee to complete its assignment, it will come out with a chart that will be the true position of the minimum wage in Kogi State.

“We are expecting a win-win situation,” he said.

Edoka, who was also the immediate past state Chairman of the MHWUN, said that his tenure witnessed a lot of transformation, saying that he was leaving the union better than he met it.

He urged the new executive council members to take the welfare of members seriously, saying that anything short of this will not augur well for the union.

“I am leaving the union with a lot of legacies. The workers which I led enjoyed the benefits of various structures of their salaries.

“I was the Chairman of the union throughout the transformation of various salary structures and I ensured that the government paid workers’ salaries,” Edoka noted.

At the end of the congress which lasted more than three hours, Mr Amari Gabriel was elected as the new state Chairman of the union while Mr Alilu Adejoh was elected as Vice Chairman.

Also elected are, Mr Kashim Abonika asTreasurer; Mr Salaudeen Yakubu, Trustee; Mr Badams Kadiri, Auditor; and Mr Ajisafe Oluwatoyin as Public Relations Officer.

In his acceptance speech, Gabriel promised to move the union to the next level, soliciting for the support of all members.

He also commended the immediate past leadership for bequeathing a legacy of quality leadership which he promised to uphold.
