A Non Governmental Organisation, has opened an orphanage, Halal Children Home to support orphans, vulnerable persons and internally displaced children in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the organisation is an initiative by a group of women residing in the state to support vulnerable children including orphans in IDPs located in urban areas of the state.

The coordinator of the orphanage, Dr Fatima Mahmud-Ajeigbe, told newsmen in Kaduna that the initiative was because government alone could not take care of all the abandoned children on the streets.

She said with the orphanage, they would be able to take care of more children; to serve as a way of relief to the parents.

“We came together to bring this initiative because we know government alone cannot do it.

“We have friends in Abuja, who have similar projects like this and we also feel we should replicate them after consultations because there are many indigent and abandoned children in the state.

She said that the children needed help because it would reduce the scourge of social vices in the state.

“Insurgency, kidnapping and other social vices started because good people in the society decided to look down on such children.

“If good people do not rise up and take care of such children, through donation to care for them, we will suffer it in the long run because we will not be allowed to have peace.

She called on well meaning individuals to rise up and take care of such children by building orphanages, adopting or fostering children from such homes to avoid negative consequences. (NAN)
