Nasarawa Assembly Charges MDAs On Budget Provisions

Nasarawa State House of Assembly Has advised heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to adhere strictly to budgetary provisions.
Mr Solomon Akwashiki, the Chairman, House Committee on Public Account, gave the advice at the commencement of the assembly’s 2023 oversight function to MDAs.
He spoke when the management of the offices of the State Deputy Governor and Head of Civil Service (HOS) appeared before the committee on their 2023 budget performance in Lafia.
Akwashiki, who is the Minority Whip of the House, said the Assembly’s resolution for their invite was to assess their 2023 budget performance.
“Mr Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has directed us to embark on an oversight function to MDAs.
“As the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has empowered us to oversee your offices in order to assess your 2023 budget performance.
“You are to state clearly the percentage of your budget performance as well as the level of your budget performance from January to date,” he said.
He urged the management of MDAs to always do the right thing and be sincere in their presentations.
The chairman said though the committee was okay with their budget performance, he however cautioned MDAs to adhere strictly to their budgetary provisions.
He urged them to submit the documents presented for scrutiny.
Earlier, Mr Polar Zeigi, the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor’s office, appreciated the committee and the House for being up and doing in passing good laws and resolutions that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
He said that there was over expenditure in terms of salary and fuel due to absorption of casual staff and increase in the price of fuel.
Also appearing before the committee, was the management of HOS led by Alhaji Umar Idris, the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Secretariat, Office of the Head of Civil Service.
The permanent secretary also commended the committee for having the interest of civil servants and the state at heart. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
