The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) has carried out rehabilitation of facilities at the Abuja Children’s Home, Karu with donation of consumables in commemoration of 2021 Nigerian Army Day celebration.
During the donation on Monday, the President of NAOWA and wife of the Chief of Army Staff, Mrs Salamatu Yahaya, also inaugurated the newly rehabilitated sickbay and refurbished furniture at the home.
Mrs Yahaya said that the gesture was also in line with NOAWA’s objectives of assisting the poor and the needy towards raising the standard of living in the barracks across the nation.
She said the association saw the need to carry out the humanitarian activities at the children’s home to support in providing healthy environment for the children, who by circumstances had found themselves where they were.
“When we show care and support to the orphans, we give them hope that they are not left alone.
“The little we have brought today is a way of showing concern for our children, the orphans.
“We are here today with food items, drugs and medical consumables, educational materials, kitchen utensils and toiletries among others.
“As mothers and wives we always care for our children no matter the condition and we will continue to do our best as a humanitarian organisation to give our widows mite by putting a smile on the faces of the less privileged in our society,” she said.
NAOWA president thanked the caregivers for the care they had been giving to the children and urged them to try to build good moral in them.
She thanked the Chief of Army Staff for the support given to NAOWA to enable her to achieve the targeted objectives.
The Chairperson, Abuja Children’s Home Karu, Hajia Amina Abubakar, commended the association for their care and support for the less privileged in the society, especially the orphans.
Abubakar explained that the establishment of the home was borne out of the desire to cater for the abandoned children in various hospitals and other places in the territory.
She said that the home had been running by donations from wwomen organisations, corporate bodies and subvention from the government.
She commended NAOWA for providing the needed support for the home, saying the items provided were the real needs of the home.
She requested NAOWA to go beyond donation and be part of the running of the home.
