Imo Compatriots for Good Governance, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has demanded the full implementation of the state government’s White Paper on the recovery of looted funds.
The Spokesman for the group, Mr Ahude Mbama, made the demand on Friday during an interaction with newsmen in Owerri.
Mbama said the white paper should not be swept under the carpet against the interest of Imo people.
He said the implementation of the report would help to put present and future governors on their toes while in office.
He commended the integrity of the panel constituted by former Gov. Emeka Ihedioha, which produced the white paper.
Mbama said: “The committee, which was set up by Ihedioha, comprised men of integrity, whose position should be honoured.
“People should be held accountable based on the way and manner they run the affairs of the state.
“So, we are calling on Gov. Hope Uzodinma to ensure that the provisions of the white paper are implemented.
“The public and government owe a duty to implement the report without fear or favour.”
Mbama expressed displeasure with the trend, where an individual would end up becoming richer than the state after serving as governor.
He commended the media for their doggedness in keeping the public abreast of events and happenings in society.
He said the group’s summit slated for March 31 would be chaired by the National Chairman of Zenith Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu.
