Lions Club International 404A1, says it will seek new local partnerships that will assist in achieving its five global causes toward extending the impact to more beneficiaries.
Mrs Fortune Wagbatsoma, the new District Governor, spoke on her goals for the club for 2021/2022 Lions year on Sunday in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the five global causes of Lions Club include reducing the prevalence of diabetes and improving quality of life for those diagnosed.
Others are preventing avoidable blindness and improving the quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired; and ensure all community members have access to nutritious foods.
The club also serves to help those affected by childhood cancer survive and thrive, and sustainably protect and restore the environment to improve the wellbeing of all communities.
Wagbatsoma said in a statement that the global causes present significant challenges to humanity, adding that the club was committed to meet these needs.
The club governor said that the new district year, which began on July 1, would focus on enhancing the club’s service journey through building “Bonds of Kindness”.
She said that the new theme emphasises the value of strong partnerships and team effort within the clubs, zones, and communities.
According to her, the club can gain significant acceptance within the communities it serves by building alliances with local development groups, enterprises, state and local governments, cultural and social associations, among others.
“We have a great opportunity before us to conduct needs assessments working with active health and lifestyle groups in our communities.
“We equally can sign up partnerships with national and global NGOs and draw attention to specific needs within our communities,” she said.
Wagbatsoma said that the club has members with diverse skills, cultural orientations, intellectual capacity.
She said that the club would deploy these talents to grow and strengthen its association with various communities.
The club governor said that the district would focus on improving members’ satisfaction through a team approach to new club development, members recruitment, retention, global service causes and leadership development.
“We will support weak clubs through a well-defined sustainability plan, better community engagement and invest in building a stronger brand,” Wagbatsoma said.
She appealed for support of Lions and partners toward achieving a productive and impactful Lion’s Year, adding that the district was open to ideas and innovations that would drive its goals.
Wagbatsoma assured the club family of her commitment to build on the great legacies of the club’s past leaders and to continue to take the district to greater heights.
