The Kebbi State Ministry of Religious Affairs, says, it has accepted request by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, to coopt the Boys Brigade, into Hisbah operations for the sake of equity and efficacy.
Already, the offices of Special Advisers on Religious Affairs on Islamic and Christian matters, have been created.
The Commissioner in the ministry, Arc. Muhammad Sani Aliyu, announced this at a Ministerial Press Briefing in Birnin Kebbi organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture this Monday.
“I recently met with the leadership of CAN who inquired if the Boys Brigade can join the activities of Hisbah, and I answered in the positive.
” Recently, some Christians of the same faith had misunderstanding between themselves and sought the intervention of Hisbah which settled the matter amicably and this impressed CAN leaders.
” Hisbah is out to provide social services and uphold morality in the society, and not an enforcer to convert non muslims to Islam”, He explained.
The Commissioner announced that his ministry has begun the process of demographic survey of Almajiri schools to ascertain age of pupils, population, places of origin and economic status of parents to regulates the activities of such schools.
“We will not allow parents to be sending children as young as 5 years to Almajiri schools who end up begging on the streets, at motor parks and abodes of individuals without bright future”, he adds.
Arc. Muhammad Sani Aliyu told newsmen that the Ministry of Religious Affairs has treated 23,542 persons suffering mental challenges with necessary medicaments at the Zauro Psychiatric Medical Outreach, attended to by Doctors from the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.
Furthermore, the Ministry has facilitated the signing of Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, between the Kebbi State Government and Qatar Foundation for the sinking of boreholes in 200 locations in the state while linkage has been established for bilateral relations with Indonesia.
