Kebbi state House of Assembly have announced the suspension of Hon. Member representing Birnin Kebbi North Constituency, Hon. Hassan Umar at its executive session held on Friday, 12th April 2024, unanimously resolved and suspended the above mentioned Hon. Member.
This was contained in a press statement dated Friday 12th April 2024, and signed by Suleiman Shamaki clerk to the house and made it available to journalist on 14th April 2024 at about 2200hrs.
The statement stated that Hon. Hassan Umar was suspended as a result of his unguarded utterances, instigation of some Hon. Members against the leadership of the Hon. House and causing disharmony between the executive and legislature in the state.
In an opinion sampling interview with some people from the said suspended Hon. Member constituency ward of Kola- Tarasa- Badariya were they described the action very sad, bad and as flagrant violation and undermining the provisions of our constitution that gives the powers of representation to each constituency shall have person as a member representing a particular constituency.
The state assembly action of suspending our own member was not in any way founded in the face of law. Stressing that this is undemocratic.
Adding that to their own knowledge a duly elected member doesn’t have constitutional power to suspend he or her who is duly elected as a member representing a particular constituency.
The community people implore the state governor, party officials and stakeholders as a matter of urgency to wade in and resolve the purported suspension of their member who is representing the good people of Birnin Kebbi North Constituency in the state assembly as claimed the state house of assembly.
Equally, his suspension is a total denial of the entire electoral of Birnin Kebbi North Constituency in the above house of assembly and also is unconstitutional and unfounded in the face of law. We are appealing to all the concerns persons to wade in and ensure that our hardworking Member is immediately reinstated.
