Residents of Kawo community in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State have commended a Non- Governmental Organisation, The Widi Jalo Foundation, for constructing boreholes in the area.

The water facilities provided were: three boreholes with an integrated photovoltaic system, elevated service tank, standpipes, transmission and distribution lines and a giant power generator.

Some of the residents who spoke with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, commended the organisation and expressed delight over the development.

Mr Sanusi Abdullahi, one of the beneficiaries said the area had suffered almost a decade of water scarcity.

He said the residents of the area encountered difficulties in purchasing from vendors, who walked a distance to obtain and provide water to the area.

He said the extent to which the project would help the people could not be overemphasised.

Abdullahi said it was a tremendous relief and improvement in the lives of the people as it would reduce the time wasted in searching for water from streams and other unreliable sources for drinking and other household chores.

Another resident of the area, Mr Muhammed Ladan, also commended the organisation for coming to the aid of the community.

“We commend their efforts because many of our children from 10 years and above have not seen water running from taps in this side of the town,” he said.

He then appealed to other organisations and philanthropists to join in rescuing people from water hardship as government alone could not satisfy people’s needs.

The Chief Executive of the Foundation Mr Abubakar Jalo, said the intervention was necessary  having realised it was what they needed during his visit to the community.

“The whole idea began during the COVID-19 pandemic when we engaged in food distribution to people. And we realised there was a plea for water as well.

“So we made researches and networked with other organisations and launched an online appeal fund and since then we have been on the interventions at many areas,” he said.

He, however, explained that the foundation had constructed over 20 boreholes in communities in Kano and Jigawa after the COVID-19 lockdown.

Mr Jalo appealed for government and individuals to support in solving problems related to water, due to its importance to human lives. (NAN) www.nannews.ng.
