The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has accused the Nigerian Police Force of killing one of its members shortly after the annual Maulud procession in Zaria, according to the movement it has buried the slain member.

This was stated by President of the Media Forum of the movement, Ibrahim Musa in a statement circulated to newsmen on Friday.

According to Musa “today the Islamic Movement buried one of its members Muhammad Salis who was shot dead by a team of policemen shortly after the yearly Maulud procession that took place in Zaria city to commemorate the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad which according to authentic narrations occurred on the 17th of Rabi’ul Awwal.

“The Maulud procession which started from Gwargwaje was largely peaceful, traversing the major street of Zaria city to Fadama neighborhood a distance of almost 3km, however as the participants were dispersing after the procession, a police unit arrived the scene and started shooting live bullets sporadically at close range, killing one and injuring 8 others.

“In Kaduna metropolis the police command enacted a similar scenario, shooting another peaceful Maulud procession along Ahmadu Bello way, though as at the time of writing this statement nobody has died of the bullets wounds sustained by four people,” said the statement.

He also accused the government of Saudi Arabia of masterminding what transpired between the movement and the Nigerian Army in 2015.

“This goes to show once again to the public and the international community that Kaduna state government which is on the payroll of Saudi Wahabi government and its security agents are not remorseful of the over a thousand lives they have killed since the December 2015 Zaria massacre by the Nigerian Army. In fact they now do the killings with impunity, since all our processions are peaceful until their arrival,” he said.

The President of the Media forum also renew calls for the release of the detained Islamic Movement leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky despite series of court orders instructing his release.
