Indonesian President, Joko Widodo on Monday said he and members of his cabinet had taken coronavirus tests after his transportation minister was hospitalised with Covid-19.

The Indonesian government announced over the weekend that Budi Karya Sumadi had tested positive for the virus.

Asked about his test results, Joko said: “Just ask the people who administer it.’’

Officials have not disclosed the results.

The president said his government had not considered locking down the country despite public calls for such a measure.

“The most important thing is social distancing and avoiding large crowds,’’ he said.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Indonesia rose to 134 on Monday after 17 more people tested positive the disease, Health Ministry spokesman Achmad Yurianto said.

The death toll remained at five, he said.

On Saturday, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced the two-week closures of schools and public parks and urged employees to work from home after a spike of cases in the capital.

Several other cities and provinces have taken similar measures.
