Factors including Lack of commitment and dedication, Lack of discipline, Insecurity, Boko haram, Farmers/herders clashes, Kidnappers, Oil bunkering and Political thuggery, Lack of implementation of Government policies have been identity as among the factors hindering the proper development of the country, this was contained in the speech delivered by the Chairman of the Committee of FCT Imam Initiatives (CFII), Dr. Imam Tajudee Muhammd Adigun at a 2 days conferences organizes for Imam from 17 states of the Southern part of the country held at the conference Hall of Muslims Community Center (Fou’ad Lababidi Mosque ) Zone 3 Wuse Abuja over the weekend.
Imam Tajudeen says that Imams havea crucial role to play in profounding a way out of the challenges facing the nation by upholding the teachings of Islam and to serve as a role model in developing the nation, Imams must continue to preach the importance of development to his followers, and they must expose anybody who want to destroy the nation and at the same time preach to the Government officials to be proactive in implementing the policies of the government, and condemn corruption with all seriousness.
According to Imam Tajudeen, other things Imams must do to bring about national development is to encourage patriotism among followers, saying this is very important as the country is facing several challenges in almost all factors of human endeavours.
In his speech during the conference, the Vice-Presidential candidate of APC, Senator Kashim Imam commended the effort of the FCT Imam Initiative because the conference brings together from all sects and blogs in the Islamic religion is very rear and it would go a long way in enhancing the much-needed unity among the Muslims faithful.
A participant from Ebonyi state, Dr. Harun Ogbonuaje who is the vice president of Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Ebonyi state says the conference is very apt and is a wonderful initiative form the FCT Imams as no any organization have ever taken the bold move to convey such gathering. He stated that “These efforts would at the long run help in elevating the status of our Imams to being self-reliant in the way they conduct their activities; the conference has also served as an avenue to update the Imams of their duty in this present society. If Imam is independent of his own welfare, he would be free to say the truth the leaders of the day”
