A group, the Women for Society Enhancement, has commended the president of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Oghogho Gwabin Musa, for her initiative to tackle breast cancer through the sponsorship of Mammograms for 20 barracks women between the ages of 40 and above.
The group welcomed the various initiatives aimed at making life meaningful for wives of personnel and women from all the services and police associations, and said they will further boost morale of personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as they continue to tackle security challenges facing the country.
The group in a press release yesterday said the DEPOWA president hit the ground running immediately on assumption of office in June this year.
The press release signed by the group’s convener, Modele Akande, noted that she has not only maintained the sustainable structure she met on ground, but has continued to elevate the status of DEPOWA.
Mrs Musa made the pledge at the bi-monthly DEPOWA Health Walk aimed at keeping the Barrack Community fit at Mogadishu Cantonment Parade Ground.
The women group said, “Breast cancer is one of the prevalent causes of death among women and has remained a source of concern.
“We want to commend the DEPOWA President, Mrs Oghogho Musa for the initiative aimed at tackling breast cancer. Breast cancer knows no boundary.
“We are very sure this will further boost morale of personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as they continue to make sacrifices for the peace and stability of our country.”
