Gov. Buni Review Free Dialysis Treatment’s Fund

The Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the upward review of monthly standing payments for free dialysis treatment at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu, from N5million, to N10 million.

In a statement issued by Malam Shuaibu Abdullahi, the Press Secretary, to Yobe SSG, Baba Malam Wali, said that the review, which is with immediate effect, is aimed at addressing the rampant cases of chronic kidney ailment affecting people in the state.

He commended management of the Teaching Hospital for ensuring that patients of kidney ailment were provided the necessary assistance to manage their lives.

For sometime now, cases of kidney ailment are being recorded in Northern part of the state, prompting the governor to seek collaboration with experts towards identifying the course.

As part of such efforts, the Governor had solicited the assistance of the Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists (NAH) in investigating the state of wholesomeness of underground water in some parts of the state.

Making the request in his speech at the conference and workshop of the 34th edition of Nigerian Association of Hydrologists (NAH) held in Damaturu recently, the State Governor said component of heavy metals in underground water is suspected to be responsible for some major health challenges affecting the people.

The Governor, whose speech was read by Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, said it is suspected that the increase in cases of kidney ailment being recorded in part of the state, had to do with the nature of the underground water there.

The Governor had also visited prominent hospitals in Europen seeking for collaboration towards finding a lasting solution to the problem.
