An Upper Area Court in Zuba, FCT, on Thursday ordered that a driver, Uche Nwerem, who allegedly abducted a policewoman, be remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre.

Mr Gambo Garba, the Presiding Upper Area Court Judge, refused the bail application filed by Nwerem, who is charged with abducting a public servant and threat to life.

Garba adjourned the matter until Dec. 12 for hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecution counsel, Mr Babajide Olanipekun, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 6.
He said that the complainant, Insp. Magdelyn Ogbodo of Gwagwa Police Division alleged that the defendant abducted her when she arrested him for violating traffic rules.

He alleged that the defendant instead of driving to the station as ordered, drove her to an unknown place and all efforts made to alight from the vehicle failed.

Olanipekun said that the complainant made a distress call and the defendant was arrested at Dei-Dei.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 273 and 153 of the Penal Code.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His counsel, Mr C.N. Nwafor, prayed the court to admit his client to bail.(NAN)
