Mrs Rose Ezewu, Delta Commissioner for Secondary Education, has urged teachers in the state to continue to contribute their quota towards sanitising the sector.

Ezewu, in a statement on Saturday in Asaba, advised the teachers to redouble their commitments in discharging their duties effectively.

According to her,  redoubling their efforts will make them to continue to play the role of nation builders.

She described teachers as critical stakeholders in the education system, noting that education is a noble profession.

“I commend teachers for their pivotal role in the growth and development of any society.

“Teachers should shun divisive tendencies and strive for the unity and progress of the profession.

“There is the need for them to always appreciate the huge investment of the Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration in the education sector,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oct. 5 was set aside in 1966 to celebrate teachers, following recommendations  by the International Labour Organisation and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery”.
