College Drags Ex-Student to Court Over Alleged Defamation

City College of Health Science and Technology, Zaria on Friday dragged its ex-student, Hunaifa Musa before Chief Magistrates’ Court GRA, Chediya, Zaria for allegedly defaming the college on social media.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the college had filed a direct criminal complaint to the court.

Musa was accused of posting damaging words to defame the quality and reputation of the college.

The college said Musa had sought to reduce the image of the school in the eye of the public by allegedly claiming that the college had no accreditation.

The defendant was also accused of calling on parents to withdraw their children from the college.

The college averred that the defendant’s acts had elicited fear in the minds of students and their parents.

They alleged that the offences were contrary to sections 374 and 36 of Kaduna State Criminal Procedure Law of 2017.

Mr Abubakar Zakariyya, counsel of the defendant filed a bail application praying the court to admit his client to bail, as she is now on administrative bail.

Counsel to the college, Mr Muhammad Lawa-Abdullahi did not object to the bail application, but prayed the court for a date to call witnesses.

The Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Aliyu-Lamido granted bail to the defendant and warned him against taking any action that would jeopardize the trial.

Aliyu-Lamido adjourned the case to Nov. 27, for continuation of hearing.
