Some clerics have urged Nigerians to use the Christmas season for sober reflection and to remember the less privileged. Some of them, who spoke at various interviews on Wednesday in Abuja, said that Jesus Christ, in honour of whom the celebrations was centred, came to rescue humanity from evil.

Ven. Ernest Onuoha, Vicar of All Saints Anglican Church, Abuja, said that Christ came to reconcile humanity to God and as Christians worship Him, they must reflect God’s glory in the world.

Onuoha urged Christians to remember the less privileged in the society as they celebrate the birth of Christ.

”Christ came to improve the relationship between man and God; Jesus came to save his people from sins,” he said.

Rev John Praise Daniel, Metropolitan Archbishop of Dominion Chapel International Church, Abuja, charged Nigerians to follow the path of peace and love.

“But for peace to reign, there must be justice; government must ensure equality and equity at all levels.”

He said that only Nigerians could rebuild or re-position the country, adding that light would always come “no matter the intensity of the darkness”.

Daniel, however, called for collective effort in fighting corruption and in rebuilding the nation.

Rev. William Okoye of All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM), said that Jesus is the light of the world, adding that anyone who received Him as Lord and saviour would begin to see life from God’s perspective.

The cleric noted that the world was a terrible place before the coming of Christ, with people treated like animals.

“It was a rain of impurity where people believed might was right. Jesus changed the story.”

He said that when God’s light shines on people, it changes them from the beastly way of living to the way God intended for man to live.

”When God comes into your life, you no longer believe in a worldly way; you begin to treat others as you want and wish to be treated.”

Okoye urged Nigerians to embrace Christ and the gospel so that God’s light and peace would reign in their lives and country.
