The Zamfara State Project Management Team of the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP) has raised alarm over scammers going round the state collecting money from farmers to help them in securing the ABP loan from Central Bank.

The State Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Sulaiman Tunau raised the alarm while speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Gusau on Thursday.

NAN reports that Tunau is the team leader, Information and Organisation of the programme.

“We received information that some bad element are going round the state collecting money from farmers in the name of helping them to secure the loan from the CBN.

“According to the information, the scammers are collecting N12, 000 from each of either rice or cotton farmers.

“I want to call on the general public to ignore those people, they are scammers.

“The CBN or state government did not send anybody to collect money from any farmer, therefore those involved in such acts are fraudsters”, he said.

Tunau therefore warned farmers in the state to disregard such people so as not to fall prey to scammers.

“We are also calling on members of the public to help us with information on anybody found making such demand.

“We are calling on the scammers to desist from the act as the government would deal decisively with anybody found wanting,” Tunau added.

NAN reports that the state government was collaborating with the CBN to secure loan for over 60,000 Rice and Cotton farmers in the state for 2020 wet season. (NAN)
