The Rotary Club of Ilorin GRA has advised the Kwara Government of the need to resuscitate guidance and counseling units in secondary schools in the state.

Dr Michael Oguntoye, the President of Rotary Club of Ilorin GRA, District 9125, made the call while speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of Annual Basic Education and Literacy Month.

He said Guidance and Counseling is of a paramount importance to address the academic, vocational and social needs of students in secondary schools.

Oguntoye explained that resuscitation of these units would enable the students to develop positive self-image and actualise their adjustment needs that leads them into the future.

He noted that the topic: “My Career, My Future” is apt as it focused on literacy and education, adding that the Rotary Club supports education as a key to human survival.

“We involve students of selected secondary schools across Ilorin and brought facilitators to counsel and guide them in their choice of career and inspire them on their career choice,” he said.

Speaking also, Mrs Harriet Osatimehin, the state Commissioner for Youths Development, commended Rotary Club for the career talk for the students.

She enjoined the students to make judicious use of the interactive sessions in order to make informed decision in their career choice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the resource persons who counseled the students included professionals in the medical, engineering, aviation, banking and journalism field.

Some of the selected schools include Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model College, Cherubim and Seraphim College, Government Secondary School and Government Day Secondary School, Gaa Akanbi.
