Buhari Condemns Attack On Ex-President Jonathan

President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathised with former President Goodluck Jonathan following an attack by gunmen on his country residence in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, revealed that the President called his predecessor on Tuesday.

In the telephone conversation, President Buhari expressed sadness over the “tragic and unfortunate attack.”

He regretted that a gallant soldier lost his life but commended other soldiers on guard for bravely repelling the attack.

The President also condoled with family members, as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Army over the loss of one of the guards.

He gave an assurance that the protection of the life of former President Jonathan and all citizens of the country would continue to be the major preoccupation of his administration.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday, called his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, on the telephone to sympathise with him over the gun attack in his Otuoke home in Bayelsa State. One soldier was killed when the attackers invaded the building on Monday. was not in Otuoke at the time of the attack.

A State House statement by Buhari’s media aide, Mr Garba Shehu, said he described the attack as “tragic and unfortunate.”

It added that Buhari was saddened by the incident. The Presidency stated further, “While commending the soldiers on guard for bravely repelling the attack, the President condoled with family members as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Army over the loss of one of the guards.

“President Buhari assured that the protection of the life of the former leader and all citizens of the country will continue to be the major preoccupation of his administration.”

There was no word on any arrests as of 5pm on Tuesday.
