The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has tasked women to imbibe the culture of personal hygiene to ensure healthy living and disease free environment.
The Director of NOA in Enugu, Mr Anthony Aneke, made the call on Saturday in Enugu while addressing Iji Nike women in Enugu East Local Government Area during the annual August Women Meeting.
Aneke said that most diseases were contracted through unhygienic lifestyle and dirty environment.
According to him, there is need for women and other Nigerians to engage in the habit of continuous personal hygiene to prevent them from being contaminated by diseases.
He urged them to ensure proper hand wash, cook their food well and avoid exposing them where animal and insects would infect them.
“This is the era of diseases, therefore, always wash your hand after using toilets, use mosquito nets to avoid mosquito bites and avoid open defecation.
“To remain safe and improve your health, you need to abide by these rules and risk of contracting COVID-19 will also be reduced” Aneke advised.
The director stated that the campaign was supported and funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
He added that the exercise  would take place across the 17 Local Governments Areas of the state.
Earlier, the Parish Priest, Holy Cross Parish, Iji Nike, Rev.Fr. Anthony Igwe in a Holy Mass to begin the 2021 August Meeting urged the women to engage themselves on social and developmental issues.
Igwe emphasised the need for them to use the opportunity to deliberate on issues that would benefit their communities and Nigeria in general.
“I am happy when the committee approached me to begin this year August Meeting with a Holy Mass.
“I want you to know that the gathering is not to showcase your uniforms or a place to eat and rest but to discuss vital issues.
“Women in one community used the meeting to build a hospital for the general good of all and i encourage you to emulate same,” he said.
The reverend charged them to encourage one another as many people were  confused giving the economic situation of the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also reports that August meeting is an annual congress held by the Igbo women in the month of August to discuss community development, Conflict Management, human development and others.
