APC Deputy National Chairman Inaugurates 300-capacity Lecture Theatre At ABU

A state of the art 300-capacity lecture theatre has been inaugurated at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to address learning and teaching accomodations challenges of the university.

Rt. Hon. Garba Datti Mohammad Babawo, Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC North-west and former Legislator representing Sabon gari federal constituency who facilitated the project said the gesture was a give back to his alma mata, having graduated from the Institution.

FRCN learnt that the lecture theatre project which was sited and inaugurated at the Division of Agricultural Colleges, (DAC-ABU) was initiated during the 9th assembly when the legislator was a member representing the constituency.

Inaugurating the project, Rt. Hon. Garba Datti Babawo said the initial project was supposed to be an Auditorium Hall with more facility but along the way, a lecture theatre was awarded.

“My commitment to the development of ABU was simply a “pay back” since i am an alumnus of the university.

“During my stay in the House i had attracted many projects to university and had intervened on several issues concerning the institution.

“In 2012, I realized that there was no admission for medical students in ABU due to some hindrances and i had to meet with the then Vice Chancellor and asked him to draft down the contraints which i forwarded to the House and was instantly captured in the budget and implemented for the programme to continue.” He said.

Datti Babawo said other interventions were made in different areas not only in the university alone but also at the institute’s teaching hospital for the overall development of the society.

The APC Deputy National Chairman, North-west stated that “Currently i am personally liasing with the Speaker of the National Assembly who was my colleague in the House to canvass for more viable projects that will strengthen academic activities in the university.

“This is because i always consider ABU as my own. And i will continue to attract more positive development whether i am a member of the house or not.” He assured.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Kabir Bala applauded the untiring commitment of the former legislator for facilitating the project.

Prof Bala said the lecture theatre will go along way in addressing inadequate learning accomodations faced by the university and urged him not to relent in his selfless commitment.

The Director, Division of Agricultural Colleges, DAC, Prof. Musa Mahadi also appreciated the gesture and pledged to make judicious use of the facility to enhance learning.
